Many years ago vampires were only seen in horror stories and always as the "monster" to be killed in the end by the heroic Vampire Hunter. They were hideous creatures that walked the night looking for their next victim.

Well somewhere along the line that has changed and Vampires are now often thought of as sensuous and the object of desire. They have become a very popular genre in romance novels, movies and on TV shows. TV was first introduced to Vampires in an ongoing serial drama by the daytime soap "Dark Shadows" but even on that show the majority of the Vampires were evil.

For this generation we had Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Kindred: The Embraced and Forever Knight to show us that Vampires could be cool, hip and even downright sexy instead of the hideous monsters they were previously portrayed as. Today's Vampires have evolved from the bloodthirtsy creatures of the night that had to kill humans and drink their blood to survive. This new generation of Vampires have found "other" alternatives to live and some are even able to function in the daylight. The Vampires of old slept in coffin's kept in dark dank caves or dungeons under creepy looking castles.

Today they seem almost as human as we are.....almost. Many of the traits that the Vampires had in literature and old horror movies still pertain to this new generation of Vampires. Most have superior strength and aren't real fond of Christian symbols (ie: the cross). They can fly and at times even shapeshift into other forms, usually a bat or a wolf. Mirrors don't reflect their images and wooden stakes and decapitation are still the weapons of choice when destroying a Vampire.

My first experience with seeing Vampires as something other than a horrific monster with no thought but to kill us humans was the 1979 version of Dracula with Frank Langella. Now there was a sexy Vampire! Ok he wasn't exactly the hero or even a good guy but he was definitely a more sympathetic character than previous Draculas. Today we have Angel, Spike, Blade and now Henry Fitzroy as young sexy Vampires that fight evil (even if it's their own kind), have relationships (though those are usually star-crossed or tortured in some way) and have become the heroes instead of the villians.

"My favorite vampire book/series is Queen of the Damned in the Vampire Chronicles, which have been featured in many vampire documentaries because Anne Rice was essentially the "first" to make her readers sympathize with her vampires because they were so human yet so...not. My favorite vampire is Louis (a recent turn) from her books because he is the most human of her books. The wierd part is that Kyle would make a perfect Lestat, and with red hair, Christina could pass as Maharet or Jesse (most likely the latter, since Jesse was introduced to vampires through investigating them for her career).

Also, Stephanie Meyer has twisted and turned the vampire myth we all know and love in her Twilight series (the third book of which is due sometime in late summer-late October). The vampires in there aren't human at all. They're incredibly perfect...sexy Edawrd, handsome Carlisle, gorgeous Rosalie (if vain), sweet Alice, strong Emmett, awesome Jasper, motherly Esme...I could go on and on.... Edward! In her book, her vampires' skin turns to diamonds in the sun (and is just about that hard) and they don't sleep."          Submitted by Destiny

"My favorite vampire books is written by author Laurel K. Hamilton she writes the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series.  When watching the first episode the blood price it showed when henry went to sleep for the day and vicki was there well, in the Anita Blake series the vampires soul leaves the body during the day basically making them completely dead and looking like a stiff corpse.  Also in the Anita Blake series there are all kinds of supernatural creatures that exist.  The books are absolutely seductive and more sex than in a porno movie after reading them I'm ready a cigarette."          Submitted by Karen

It’s about time that any show or movie has a vampire that is as believable as Henry in Blood Ties.  I have been in love with vampires since I saw Salem’s Lot in the 70’s and I can honestly say that Kyle’s portrayal is almost perfect in my mind.  He could be any of those perfect, adorable, sexy, fiends that I have enjoyed reading about for years.  He’s Lestat and Jean-Claude rolled into one, and damn sexy in his own right.  I was pleased and relieved that someone finally acted and look like the vampire I would want to meet some dark, warm night.  Now if he’d only ride a Harley!        Submitted by Dawn

I'll have to say that my favorite book is Interview with a Vampire.  I believe its just the way that vampires are described that makes them desired in so many ways.  Lastat, Louie, Armond, Henry they all have the same kind of qualities.  Being very attractive is of course the biggest, but there is also the attitudes, the mannorisms, the ability to completely overwhelm their "partners."

I just wanted to say that my favorite Vampire book is Twilight. This book is by Stephanie Meyer. Her story portrays a group of vampires that live in Forks and are good. In fact the Father Chalisle is a doctor. But the main characters in the story are Bella Swan a human and Edward Cullen a perfect good vampire. He reminds me alot of Kyle's role as Henry because Edward is this bronze-haired pale-skined boy that every girl swoons after but can never get. The story is just so amazing. I mean what could be better than a vampire and a human falling in love and breaking the odds. Just like Romeo and Juliet. They are two star-crossed lovers but this time they make it! I read Twilight and New moon each in a sitting. I can't wait until Eclipse comes out. I give Stephanie Meyer much praise on this collection. It is just as good as BloodTies. Just with this you can think of Edward in what you think is perfect.

My first experience in thinking of vampires as not evil was when I read Bite, a compilation of five vampire stories, one of them by Laurell K. Hamilton.  After that, I read the Anita Blake books.  All of the vampires seemed so kind and romantic.  I like Henry better than the Anita Blake "jean-claude" but only because he shows his dark side when Vickie oversteps her bounds.  He's dangerous and, with all the humanization of these wonderful nightwalkers, people seem to forget that they are deadly.  Not to mention he's a total babe and biting is...don't get me started...right*cough* read Anita Blake...yeah.

I was first introduced to vampires through Linda Lael Miller 's Vampire book Time Without End. The main characters Valerian Lazerus and Daisy ( A Detective) Are star-crossed lovers because she is the reincarnation of his love who died 700 hundred years ago and has been reincarnated at least once a century. Since he became a vampire he has made a vow to find her in each of her new reincarnations but soon after they cross paths she dies after receiving a mysterious ruby ring so now he is in a race against time to try and save her.  Valerian is based of the traditional vampire in that he cant stand sunlight and is damned.  I have red many vampire stories usually romances with many different myths woven in and loved them all but my favorites right now are The Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton I don't care that sometimes there is more sex then plot but I just love the series.  I also Like The Black Dagger Brother-Hood Series by JR Ward in her series vampires are a totally different species humans can't be turned you have to be born one. There is also Sherrilyn Kenyon who has woven her vampires into Greek mythology. Last but not least is the Darkyn series by Lynn Viehl. In the Darkyn (Derived from Dark Kin)series Most of the vampires rose after dying of the black plague Irony of Ironies most of them used to be Templar Knights and Believe that they have been cursed by God. I first found Blood Ties by accident because I was actually looking for True Blood a new series starring Anna Paquin. I couldn't remember the name and Blood Ties just kept popping into my head and thats how  I found it and became hooked.  I love Henry I think he is awesome.  I would love for him and Vicki to be together because I am a total romantic but I am also A bit of a cynic.  I also think to much.  I think Mike understands what Vicki needs and is willing to be there for Vicki even if he tends to put his foot in his mouth more often then not.  Mike and Vicki are steady together.  Where as she meets Henry and has this flare of passion but is he really what she needs in the long run? These are my philosophical thoughts for the day.

My favorite books are by Christine Feehan. The men in the stories are from the Carpathian Mountains they drink blood to survive but they do not kill anyone. They do not consider themselves vampires but shapeshifters. Vampires are considered the undead who love to kill for the sport and torture of other. They get an adrenaline high from the blood. But I agree with the writer of the stories  Frank Langella movie was hot. Feehan stories have a lot of sex in them too.

I can't really remember what got me hooked on vampires, most probably films like Lost Boys and Fright Night.  Not to mention my favourite tv show Forever Knight, sorry but nothing can beat that as far as i'm concerned and Geraint Wyn Davies is absolutely gorgeous! I don't think i have ever thought of vampires as been disgusting creatures, i have always found them fascinating. In regards to books, I read all types of vampire fiction, whether the vampire is a villian or a hero, I don't really mind as long as the characters are realistic, although I suppose my favourite types are the books when the vampire is the hero of the story. I love the Vampire Files books by P.N.Elrod, Tanya Huffs books and Susan Sizemores vampire fiction. What can I say, I just love Vampires!!!

Well that is a an interesting combination. My first experience that got me into vampires was Anne Rice- ALL ANNE RICE. I own every non-erotic book that she wrote and have read them all and I love her characters especially Lestat and David, however recently (in the past year) I have become obsessed, in a good way, with J.R. Ward. Her Black dagger brotherhood books are incredible. They are as good as Anne Rice, but different from her. While Anne Rice allows us a glimpse into the lives of her vampires (which are romantic and exciting) Ward actually makes you live her vampires lives, and they are strong and sensual and man oh man do they make me want to be bitten :-)   I love Henry Fitzroy but he has nothing on these guys. Oh FYI her books are considered romance due to some sexually graphic content, but that just makes them better in my opinion. So yeah Anne Rice got me started and JR Ward made me a lifetime fanatic!

My favorite book series is Christine Feehan's Dark Series where she had made her vampires into a different species called Carpathians and vampires are soulless creatures that were former Carpathians who had chosen to kill for the thrill of feeling again.  I love her version because it makes vampires seem so gorgeous and beautiful worthy of sensuous and dreamy eyes. My earliest recollection of vampire movies would be when I was about 4 or 5 years old. I have three older brothers who took turns taunting me! But my brother, closest in age, would drag me out into the frontroom to watch a show here in Chicago on WGN called, "Creature Features", every Sat. or Sun afternoon, around 3-4 p.m., back then. They showed all kinds of Horror genre B-movies and we would be lying on the floor, chins in our hands, fixated on the scariest shows, with our little faces practically pressed against the t.v. screen... vampires were always my favorite!
In the 70s, they ran alot of Christpher Lee/ Peter Cushing vampire movies... I always rooted for the vampire, of course! We never flinched and when we did, we would roll around on the floor laughing at each other, hysterically... not scarey at all! When the vamps intended female victim would be hypnotized to float outside for a rendevouz in the night, I was absolutely mesmorized. I think that's when I first got hypnotized by the genre, myself! That usually initiated a game of me being the female vampire, chasing my brother, the wolfman around the frontroom... complete with our own set of play fangs! I think they were the costume stand-bys for Halloween several years in a row, there after.
I was about 7 when I checked out my first vampire book from the library... I can't even tell you what it was, but there's been hundreds after that, all blended together in my very over-active imagination.
My all time favorite movies though, are a hilarious little diddy by Roman Polanski called Fearless Vampire Hunters, with his wife, the Late Sharon Tate... tragic! And a real cheesy B-movie called Vampire Circus. The lead vamp is named Emil and is very sensual! He also shape-shifts into a black panther!! I think that was the very first movie that I related vampirism to sexuality.
I Love Anne Rice's vampire series!! But then, who doesn't?! I was thrilled when the movies came out. My other favorites are of course, Lost Boys and Bram Stoker's Dracula... which was beautifully filmed, I might add. I read the book when I was very young. Nothing though, can compare to Bela Legosi's Dracula, and the original Nasferatu... classic brilliance!
There's only two movies that have ever really scared the daylights out of me, the original Phantom of the Opera and The Exorcist... which has absolutely nothing to do with vampires... except that if I was to ever sit down and actually write one of my many journals that I keep, and think of what would be the most monsterous vampires, those examples are chisled into my brain and nightmares, forever.
What is it about the vampire mystique that fascinates me? I think first, and most importantly, is the illusion of immortality and rising from the grave, in perfection. Eternal youth and beauty. Vampires don't get sick and they don't die. They are very loyal protectors and fierce predators. Vampires are Heroes in my book! Anything is possible in the genre, these days.
Second, would have to be the sensuality and seduction... old world charm and chivalry, romance and passion. Love is eternal and conquers all until the sun rises! Angry vamps, being vamps excite me even more! Nothing's more powerful than a vampire warrior, conquering his enemies, for the love of his woman... it's actually very sweet, and yet very Dangerous. I guess it's the old "beauty and the beast" theme that sweeps me off my feet, and turns me into an emotional heap... I absolutely fall in LOVE with my vampires!
Blood Ties is the most refreshing vampire show, I've watched in a long time. When they took Forever Knight off, I was crushed! There's been a real void, since then. But I think Kyle Schmid is doing a Beautiful job filling that void and portaying our royal, Henry Fitzroy!! And I have a little crush on him now, too... just a little itty bitty one. What a brilliant concept Tanya Huff has given us! I've just started reading the first novel and I'm hooked, already! I Hope this show stays on for a very long time, so that I can be seduced by my favorite vampire, everytime I watch it... Perfection!

My favorite vampires have to be Henry from Blood TIes, Stefan from the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs, and Mick from Moonlight.

The Mercy books have the same edge as the Blood books and the TV show; funny but amazingly awesome. In the Mercy series, vampires are mostly evil but Stefan is different. They have to be fed upon for a long time before they can be changed, almost becoming vampiric themselves after being Bound - i.e. having the ability to be brought back when killed by the parent vampire.

Henry is awesome because he has a different attitude than most vampires in vampire novels and movies. He doesn't hate being a vampire, he enjoys it, but not in a way that makes him evil. He has many 'encounters' with women, but still only truly loves Vicki. Hehas no problem with drinking human blood, but only or survival. He doesn't kill people. He reminds me a little of a knight - protective and always willing to go against wrong.

My favorite vampire is Mick St. John from Moonlight on CBS on Fridays at 7pm, but my favorite myths are eyes changing to a red color from Vampire High, when a vampire is killed they turn to ash like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I love in Moonlight how they jump really high and can move really fast. The way Henry Fitzroy uses his powers is sexy, dangerous in a good way and cool how he helps Vicki out. Vote to keep Blood Ties on, it's a great and cool show.

Several years ago, after absorbing all of Ann Rice's novels, I got hooked on Susan Sizemore.  Her vampires have such an amazing sense of humor and sense of self.  Her ability to paint such vivid pictures with words are right up there with Rice.  While reading her novels, I was given two other books about the supernatural and now find myself haunting the websites of Kresley Cole and Lara Adrian as well as Susan Sizemore to see when their next novel will be released.  None of them follow the standard fare of vampirism but each has a unique story line and wonderfully warped sense of humor.  Their heroes are uber-alpha males and their heroines are not your typical helpless females.  Anyone out there who loves a good love story with just a bit of erotica and more than a bit of humor will love any of these authors. submitted by Gabi

I love the regulars liek Anne Rice and The Twilight Weries. But my two favorites since their inception is theTemplar Vampires by Rene Lyons and The Southern Vampire novels by Charlaine Harris.

I love Moonlight and Blood Ties of course They always take the best shows off and leave the normal middle of the road shows on. I wish there was a channel for just vampire fanatics.
Can you imagine 24 hours of Buffy, Angel, Dark Shadows, Moonlight, Blood Ties,Dark Shadows, and  Blade..wow. I would never leave from the front of the tv.
