1) Were you familiar with Tanya Huff's books prior to appearing on the show based on her work?
I was not familiar with Tanya Huff's books prior to the show and was excited to discover that the project was based on the writings of both a female and Canadian icon such as herself.
2) How would you describe your character? Why did you want this role?
My character is a tragic villain. Angelic is crafty with ambitions that are not limited to this dimension or this plane of existence. She comes from a legacy of geopolitical subjugation with an even stronger legacy of animis faith. This combination did not exactly encourage Angelic's Buddha nature. On the contrary it burned through her eyes and calcified her heart. The depths of her loss match her insatiable desire, her power and her weakness.
I wanted the role because Angelic is a fun character to play with.
3) Had you worked with any of the cast or crew prior to Blood Ties?
The cast and crew of Blood Ties were new to me. It was a gift to wander into such a wonderful creative environment.
4) What was the interviewing process like for Blood Ties?
The interviewing process for Blood Ties was quite unique. It began quite calm and straight forward and ended with convulsing.
5) Since the series doesn't air in Canada , have you been able to see your episode yet? What did you think of the episode?
Yes I have been able to see Bad Juju. I love the way it all came together. Blood Ties has great characters and well-researched concepts.
6) Blood Ties is filmed in Vancouver but the show is based in Toronto . Do you remember any specific filming locations?
One of the locations was along a waterway and under a bridge, shooting in one of Vancouver ’s oldest warehouse buildings. The location had a lot of history for such a young city. Most core urban waterways have seen the entirety of a city’s action. This spot like similar ones in Toronto or New Orleans is inherently nostalgic.
7) What was the first scene you filmed for the show?
The first scene we filmed was Angelic coming clean – or so we think. Upon their second encounter Angelic explains to Vicki and her "undead friend" who she is and the plight of her missing brother.
8) Who is the first person you told that you got the role on Blood Ties? How did you celebrate getting this role?
Ironically enough the first person I told was a close friend who had been advising me on travel plans I was making for Mali and Senegal . We celebrated by reading up on West Africa and trip planning over wine.
9) Any memorable moments from the set? or lasting memory from working on the show?
There were many memorable moments on set. I love that some of the scenes were quite physical – like being sucked into a stone coffin. The cigar smoking and fire spitting was fun but a bit hard on the lungs. And the albino boa on set was a cool snake to chill with.
10) What are your upcoming projects?
Right now I am working on a pilot. I can’t say much but it’s a fun project. |
