Forum discussion thread for this interview here

1) Were you familiar with the Tanya Huff books prior to appearing on the show?

I have not read any, though I looked her up and did some research. She's very accomplished and super interesting. I really do like the genre and think the cover art is really cool. I'll have to read one soon.

2) How would you describe your character? What appealed to you about this character? Why did you want this role?

When I first read the script, I pictured Cassis as real hard, ghetto and sleazy. I was laughing out loud when I read her lines. To tell you the truth, I didn't think I was right for it because I pictured her older, over the top and real sleazy. "Money talks or Cassis walks" was my favorite line. Then after reading it again, I just wanted to make her real, with a touch of class and youth and I thought that was a challenge. Then I really wanted the role. When I walked into the audition, I was much younger than the other girls there and I dressed like a high class hooker instead of cracked out. I played her smart, witty and real natural. A girl who had to go through a lot and developed a thick skin and found the wrong way to make money, but deep down has always been trying to get her life together.

3) Had you worked with any of the cast or crew prior to Blood Ties?

Not the cast or that director. Though Vancouver becomes a small town when you've been working in the industry for a while and every time I do a show, I work with crew I've worked with before.

4) You have a lot of dialogue in your first scene in the alley. How many retakes did it take to get it just right?

We did shoot that scene for a while but mostly because it took awhile to get our positioning right with me trying to take off a few times.  We never really did mess up our lines too many times, although we did slightly change the dialog to make it sound more natural with all the overlapping that happens within the interrogation part of the scene.

5) With your witty lines, was there a lot of laughter on the set? Or was this a serious working atmosphere?

Well it was serious as in everyone knew when to crack a joke and when not to. But for sure my outfit and lines were so out there and funny. I could barely walk in those shoes. I love dressing up so roles like that are fun.

6)  Blood Ties is filmed in Vancouver but the show is based in Toronto . Your 2 major scenes appear to be outside.  Do you remember what the locations were for your scenes?

I don't know.

7) What was the interviewing process like for Blood Ties? Were you asked to act out a scene from the episode or was this more of an open casting call?

I had to do the first scene as an audition piece.. I'm not sure how many girls they saw, probably 20 or 30. When I met the director, he told me he picked me because I was natural.

8) Who is the first person you told that you got the role on Blood Ties?

My mom and I were sitting on the couch with two girl friends playing music when I got the call.

9) How did you celebrate getting this role?

I did really girly cheering and hugging. They were happy for me.

10) Is there a chance your character will return later?

You never know.

11) Is Blood Ties the kind of show that you would watch, beyond the episode that you guest starred in?

Probably, I have not seen it yet. I like watching things done in Vancouver because I see my friends and places I recognize. From what I gathered and experienced in the episode I did, it seemed awesome.

12) What are your upcoming projects?

I don't really like to talk about things too early, superstition I guess. I am a series lead on a T.V show soon. We start shooting soon. You'll have to look me up and keep tabs on me.

Exciting Update: Daniella will be on a show called the Benvenuti Family. A major new series, with a great cast and producers, one of the producers to add to the list is Scott Rosenfelt he produced many shows including Home Alone 2. More details to follow!
